Alberto Nisman had arrest warrant for Argentina’s President when found dead

Alberto Nisman, 51, was found dead in his apartment on January 18 with a single gunshot wound to the head and no suicide note. It was hours before he was due to testify to Congress about the President’s role in allegedly covering up details of a 1994 bombing at a Jewish centre which killed 85 people and injured 200.

Lead investigator in the case of Mr Nisman’s death Viviana Fein confirmed the 26-page draft document calling for the arrest of President Kirchner and foreign minister Hector Timerman was found in the rubbish at Mr Nisman’s apartment.

An Argentine prosecutor apparently committed suicide just hours before he had been due to testify against President Cristina Kirchner, officials say.

Buenos Aires: An Argentine prosecutor was found dead just hours before he had been due to give what was expected to be damning testimony against President Cristina Kirchner, in what appears to have been a suicide, officials said on Monday.

The body of Alberto Nisman, 51, who had received threats, was found overnight in his 13th-floor apartment in the upscale Puerto Madero waterfront neighbourhood of the capital Buenos Aires. Continue reading
