German energy company Wintershall, a European partner with Russia’s Gazprom, said the European energy sector can’t be used for “geopolitical football.”

The House Armed Services Committee is currently reviewing a classified report it ordered last year on restarting production of the F-22 Raptor, according to a spokesperson for the committee.

“I can confirm that we received the report and are reviewing it,” HASC spokesman Barron Youngsmith told UPI, declining to comment further due to the classified nature of the review.

“Anti-Terrorist” Exercises

Although the two don’t always see eye to eye, Russia and China today have a strong military alliance, largely to counter mutual foes. The two nations have already signed a de facto defense pact.

Russia and China held their first set of war games in 2005. These were labeled “anti-terrorist” exercises, but in reality they were far more—involving over 10,000 troops, warships and airplanes. They simulated landing attacks against hostile shores and even featured large-scale paratroop drops. Experts believe they may have been a trial run for a joint Russia-China invasion of Taiwan, or for supporting a Central Asian government against an American-backed insurgency.

Alaska petition to secede to Russia going strong at 18K signers

A petition that seeks to put Alaska back under Russian control has garnered more than 18,000 signatures in just a few days — about a fifth of what’s needed to capture a formal White House look.

The petition, called “Alaska Back to Russia,” was created by a resident of Anchorage who declined to list his name, but instead gave only the initials of S.V., United Press International reported.
