Russian Foreign Minister: Russian Reset Was ‘The Invention of Hillary Clinton,’ Not Us

“Well, if you take the regional reset, it was not our invention—it was the invention of Hillary Clinton and Obama administration,” Lavrov said.In 2009, while serving as Secretary of State, Clinton presented Lavrov with a mistranslated reset button.

The reset button was a gesture that the Obama administration wanted to pursue a new relationship with Russia. Continue reading

US lets EU take center stage on Ukraine peace accord

Remember that the EU is led by Germany, therefore America is encouraging Germany to take center stage — and it has.

In allowing the EU to mediate Ukraine’s peace accord, the US achieved its objectives and lightened its own burden. Whether it can stay in the shadows depends on the likelihood of a Ukrainian financial crisis.

The US had two priorities in Kyiv, says Charles A. Kupchan, who under the first Clinton administration directed the National Security Council’s (NSC) European affairs.

“Number one, to stop the killing and the loss of life. And number two, to bring to an end a political stalemate and find a way forward for Ukraine,” he told DW.

“From the perspective of Washington, it’s important that the Atlantic community move to a new division of responsibility in which Europe shoulders a greater burden,” Kupchan said. “And in the first instance, those burdens should be in Europe.” Continue reading

If You Believe That The Cold War Is Over, Just Look At What Is Happening In Ukraine

What is happening on the streets of Kiev right now is really a proxy war between the East and the West.  On the one side you have the USSA and the EUSSR, which are quite determined to bring Ukraine under their sphere of influence.  On the other side you have Russia (the former USSR), which is quite determined to keep Ukraine out of the EU and out of NATO.  In addition, Russia is extremely concerned about the strategic natural gas pipelines that go through Ukraine that transport gas from Russia to the rest of Europe.  Ultimately, it is not in the interest of the people of Ukraine to be dominated by either side, but that is going to be what ends up happening.  The Cold War is playing out on the streets of Kiev as you read this, and this conflict is going to greatly increase tensions between the East and the West.  As these tensions continue to rise, someday this Cold War could actually end up sparking a real war between the superpowers.

You can see some amazing photos of the unrest in Ukraine right here, and you can find some startling before and after photos of Kiev right here and right here.

Violence has been committed by both sides.  For those that think that these are just “peaceful protests”, just consider the followingContinue reading

Russia warns US on Ukraine, says Moscow could act

For Russian planners, as was in 2008 with the invasion of Georgia, the 2014 Winter Olympics might be used as a distraction for Moscow to ‘act’.

Kiev: A senior Kremlin aide accused the United States on Thursday of arming Ukrainian “rebels” and, urging the Kiev government to put down what he called an attempted coup, warned Russia could intervene to maintain the security of its ex-Soviet neighbour.

Sergei Glazyev, an adviser to President Vladimir Putin with responsibility for relations with Ukraine, told a newspaper that US “interference” breached the 1994 treaty under which Washington and Moscow jointly guaranteed Ukraine’s security and sovereignty after Kiev gave up its Soviet-era nuclear arsenal.
