Russia now world’s No. 2 in arms sales, report shows

Russia is now the world’s second-largest arms producer, overtaking Britain and moving behind only the United States, researchers said Monday.

The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute said in a report sales of arms and military services totaled $398.2 billion in 2017. The figure, which excludes China because of a lack of available data, is 2.5 percent higher than it was the previous year and 44 percent higher than it was in 2002. Continue reading

For the record, when you see articles like this claiming the EU Army is Europe’s answer to Trump, don’t be fooled. Even though it’s well documented here on Global Geopolitics, and has been so for over five years, the plans for such a structure have been laid out decades ago. A SENIOR German defence official has insisted the European Union will inevitably launch its own army.

Hans-Peter Bartels, Germany’s national defence commissioner welcomed the single force because the bloc is “currently disorganised”.

Speaking on the same day Brexit talks formally began, Mr Bartels said steps in the “right direction” are important, which signalled [sic] Germany’s potential plans to press ahead with defence integration. Continue reading
