Nine states were placed on high alert following the theft [Google]

 

THE MEXICAN government has placed nine states on high alert after radioactive material capable of creating a dirty bomb was stolen near the nation’s second largest city.

The Iridium 192, a potentially highly unstable material used in radiography equipment, was stolen on the outskirts of tourist hotspot Guadalajara.

Luis Felipe Puente‏, head of national emergency services, placed nine states on high alert after the material disappeared just half a day’s drive from the Texan border. Continue reading

SAN ANTONIO – Photos showing dozens of members of the militia groups on the U.S.-Mexico border carrying semi-automatic rifles and wearing masks, camouflage and tactical gear provide one of the first glimpses into the group’s activities on the border.

Members of the militia groups, who say they have 10 active “teams” along the state’s southern border, are seen at campsites, walking along the Rio Grande River, pointing rifles and pistols out of frame and flipping off the camera in the photos obtained by the San Antonio Express-News.

  A spokesperson for the group provided the photos under the condition that members’ faces be blurred because of fear of being identified by “cartel and gang members.” Continue reading

LAREDO, Texas (AP) — The U.S. Border Patrol’s South Texas commander is to address the agency’s efforts to handle the overwhelming flow of immigrants into the region this year.

Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley surpassed last year’s immigrant arrest total last week, less than eight months into the fiscal year. The sector in southernmost Texas has nearly 160,000 arrests since Oct. 1, 2013. Continue reading
