Defying US, Iranian warships escort cargo vessel toward Yemen

Tehran ship packed with humanitarian supplies heading to rebel-controlled town, despite Washington’s directive that it dock in Djibouti, where aid is being coordinated

Two Iranian warships have joined a cargo ship that Tehran says is carrying supplies to Yemen.

US Army Col. Steve Warren said the ships linked up overnight Monday, setting up a possible conflict as the US insists the supplies go to Djibouti, where the United Nations is coordinating humanitarian aid for Yemen.

US Navy Starts Accompanying British Ships Off Iranian Coast

The move comes after the United Kingdom asked for an escort for their ships, Army Col. Steve Warren said.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) —US warships have begun accompanying British merchant vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, a Pentagon spokesman said Monday.

“They’ve asked if we would accompany their flagged vessels through the strait.”

Obama administration sending military advisers to Ukraine within weeks

On Tuesday this week, the Washington Times reported that a spokesperson for the US Department of Defense confirmed plans to put Pentagon advisers in Ukraine.

“Within the next few weeks, a group of Defense Department representatives who specialize in strategy and policy will head to Kiev to evaluate specific programs that the United States may want to help bolster,” reporter Maggie Ybarra wrote for the Times.

PENTAGON — A Pentagon spokesman says the United States will not comply with China’s new air defense zone in the East China Sea and is prepared to defend its aircraft that enter the region.

Shortly after China declared it was establishing an Air Defense Identification Zone in the East China Sea, U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel issued a statement condemning the move and saying the new Chinese policy would not in any way change how the United States conducts military operations in the region.

On Monday, Pentagon spokesman U.S. Army Colonel Steve Warren made the U.S. position even clearer.
