A Russian mole has been uncovered inside NATO intelligence. What does this mean for Western security?

Last weekend, in the latest development in the secret espionage struggle between Vladimir Putin’s Kremlin and the West, a major Russian spy was arrested in Italy. On Saturday, Frederico Carvalhão Gil, a senior intelligence official from Portugal, was picked up by Italian police along with his Russian intelligence handler, whom he was meeting clandestinely in Rome.

Although Portugal is hardly a big player in the global spy game, it has been a member of the Atlantic Alliance since its founding in 1949, and Lisbon’s intelligence services are full members of the West’s secret spy network. Finding a mole like Mr. Carvalhão in any NATO security service is a serious matter for the whole alliance. Continue reading

KGB spies who ‘tried to recruit’ David Cameron were just a ‘gay pick-up’

It’s interesting, to say the least, that the KGB knew nothing about Cameron then, but somehow still knew about the situation and motive.

Moscow’s secret services say a 19-year-old David Cameron was not targeted by spy recruits… they were gay men trying to pick him up

KGB agents tried to recruit a 19-year-old David Cameron as a Cold War spy during his gap year travels in the Soviet Union.

Or so the story goes when told by the Prime Minister.

Russia ‘to reopen Cold War Cuban listening post used to spy on America’

Lest we also forget the quote in Pravda where Putin reportedly said Russian nuclear missiles were already reinstalled in Cuba.

  • Facility at Lourdes was the largest Russian listening post abroad
  • It was mothballed in 2001 after relations with the U.S. warmed
  • But relations with the West have deteriorated amid the Ukraine crisis
  • Moscow has also shown a new interest in Latin America and Cuba
  • Last week, Russia agreed to write off 90 per cent of Cuba’s debt

Russia has agreed to reopen a major Cold War listening post on Cuba that was used to spy on America, it was reported today.

Moscow-based daily Kommersant claimed Russia and Cuba have struck a deal ‘in principle’ after President Vladimir Putin visited the island last week.

Citing several sources within Russian authorities, the respected daily wrote: ‘The agreements were finalised while President Vladimir Putin visited Havana last Friday. Continue reading

Spy vs. spy: 2 famous defectors on Russian super-deception

Beware those who deride Anatoliy Golitsyn. In this case, we have a ‘defector’ who does noting to disprove Golitsyn, his theories nor predictions… 94% of which came to be true. This is essentially low-level slander and a character assassination from someone who wants to discredit. Mr. Pacepa is someone who spreads disinformation in order to cover up, whitewash or distract those who are concerned about threats originating from today’s neo-Soviet Union. He could also be a disinformationist himself. During Golitsyn’s time (and even today), it’s known that the Soviet Union had also dispatched numerous fake defectors in order to make true defectors hard to believe. The proven events alone as fact today should speak for themselves.

One of the hottest books of 2013 was written by Lt. Gen Ion Mihai Pacepa, the highest-ranking Soviet bloc official ever to defect in Cold War history, whose explosive exposé of Soviet “disinformation” strategies was turned into a blockbuster film.

However, other defectors have also tried to make Americans aware of the serious dangers posed to the West by Russia, though it is increasingly portrayed as America’s friend and ally.

One such defector was Anatoliy Golitsyn, a spy who defected in 1961 and who made over 200 predictions about specific strategies Russia would employ to deceive the West – most of them supplied to the CIA in the form of “memoranda,” and later published in a book titled, “New Lies for Old.” According to intelligence expert and author Mark Riebling, 94 percent of these predictions have come to pass. Among them:

Liberalization of the Soviet bloc (including the apparent separation of independent republics from Moscow). “Glasnost” and “Perestroika” would be deployed as buzzwords to deceive Western media.

Reunification of Germany and the demolition of the Berlin Wall. Continue reading

Edward Snowden Seeking to Join KGB Veterans Group

He likely could’ve been working for the Russians the entire time, before the ‘scandal’ broke out.

Renegade National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden has applied to join a group of former Russian intelligence and security officials, according to the group’s director.

Participation in a union of former KGB security, intelligence, and police officials, would likely change Snowden’s status from that of a whistleblower seeking to expose wrongdoing, to an intelligence defector who has changed sides. Continue reading

Friend and Foe

BERLIN/WASHINGTON (Own report) – New reports are confirming the close cooperation of the German Federal Intelligence Service (BND) with the National Security Agency (NSA). According to these reports, BND agents have repeatedly visited the NSA headquarters at Fort Meade to discuss technical issues. The NSA has also furnished the BND instruments for analyzing intercepted data. A former head of the Austrian intelligence service has confirmed that it was a “common understanding among all European intelligence services” to be “aware” of the NSA Prism surveillance program. Already years ago, officials of the US military have been quoted saying that the US military espionage center that is being established in the Hessian capital Wiesbaden – and that will reportedly also be used by the NSA – is destined to gather information “on the current situation of friend and foe, and everything that can influence our mission.” The German government has also admitted that the Western block’s cooperation of the intelligence services – which includes abduction and torture of suspects in the so-called war on terror – dates back to secret agreements between the leading NATO powers during the post-WW II decades.
