Italy Threatens EU With “Nuclear Option”: Give 200,000 Migrants EU Visas, Sending Them North

 

Two weeks after Italy reacted with anger to Austria’s deployment of troops and armored vehicles to the border between the two nations, while reactivating border controls at the Brenner Pass over concerns that Italy will be unable to handle the roughly 85,000 migrants and refugees who have entered the country so far in 2017, the Italian government has threatened to retaliate in way that assures an imminent migrant crisis as well as an escalation of tensions between the two EU nations.

According to The Times, an Italian minister and a senator have threatened to issue temporary EU visas to thousands of migrants in an effort to “resolve” Italy’s escalating migrant and refugee crisis, which would then allow the refugees to travel north. The move, which has been described as a ‘nuclear option,’ would allow the nearly 200,000 migrants currently stranded in Italy, to travel across Europe using a Brussels directive loophole.

The European Commission recently agreed that Austria, Denmark, Germany, Norway, and Sweden to continue checks at their respective borders for another 6 months, but warned that it would be the last time they would be permitted (yes, countries need permission from the EU to protect themselves) to do so.

Prime Minister, Lars Loekke Rasmussen, told the Danish Parliament on Tuesday that the number of people coming from Africa to Europe was “much, much too high”.

The EU approved a new Swiss law on Thursday (22 December) that will allow EU citizens to work in Switzerland, opening the way to solve a two-year crisis.

An EU-Swiss joint committee, where all 28 EU states are represented, said that the law passed last Friday in the Swiss parliament would limit the effect of a 2014 referendum to introduce immigration quotas into the Swiss constitution.

One of the consequences of the referendum would have been to limit the free movement of EU workers to Switzerland, a member of the passport-free Schengen area.

France and Germany propose EU ‘defence union’

And guess where the focus is: The Middle East, where the Biblically prophesied King of the South (possibly Iran) just might reside. Who leads this? Germany’s Fourth Reich. France, as you’ve seen in years worth of previous posts on Global Geopolitics, including this one, only toes the dominant German line.

Furthermore, with America on its way out as a world superpower, we might be seeing the rise of another via Germany and its collection of subordinate vassal states, which could also as a whole turn into the Biblically prophesied King of the North. This new incoming bloc at the moment is referred to as the United States of Europe. Only time will tell how God chooses to let this play out.

Germany and France have drawn up plans for closer EU defence cooperation, including a new military HQ and swifter deployment of overseas missions.

The ideas were outlined by the two countries’ defence ministers, Ursula Von der Leyen and Jean-Yves Le Drian, in a six-page paper sent to the EU foreign service on Sunday (11 September) and seen by German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung and French daily Le Figaro.

The Franco-German paper says, according to Le Figaro, that “in the context of a deteriorating security environment … it is high time to reinforce our solidarity and European defence capabilities in order to more effectively protect the citizens and borders of Europe”.

The European Commission is set to release a report finding that Turkey’s human rights practices failed to comply with the terms of the deal – a finding that would end all hope of Turkish citizens receiving visa-free travel and likely forcing Erdogan to open the floodgates.

The Erdogan government became enraged after a senior European official claimed that Turkey is not committed to doing what is necessary to join the 28-nation bloc and that its residents should be denied visa-free travel within the EU as was initially agreed upon by the two parties. The spat between Turkish officials and the European Union comes at a time when Europe desperately needs to preserve the migrant deal.

We will see Pen surge more now in the polls and Hollande, who was at a whopping 11% approval rating, may now fall even below 10%. This will have further impact upon the diminishing approval rating of Merkel in Germany as well.

The Internal and External Ring

BERLIN (Own report) – Within the EU, the mounting pressure to ward off refugees, is intensifying the debate about a possible dismantling of the Schengen system. It is yet unclear, whether Berlin can reach its objective of stopping refugees at the external borders of Greece to be immediately deported to Turkey. Alternately, attempts are being made to turn Macedonia into a buffer state against refugees, while threatening Greece’s exclusion from the Schengen system. The establishment of a “Mini-Schengen” is being considered as an emergency solution. Even while officially continuing to reject such a “Mini-Schengen,” the German government is already involved in its planning, which the Netherlands is officially directing. Any option beyond effectively sealing off Greece’s external borders, i.e. abandoning part of the Schengen-system, would be a first retreat – with unforeseeable consequences. According to observers, this could seriously weaken the EU.

That news will come as no surprise to those familiar with theTrumpet.com. For years we have said that the Catholic Church must play a powerful role in European unity.

The European Common Market has “so far … been unable to bring about full political union,” wrote Herbert W. Armstrong in his book The United States and Britain in Prophecy. “This will be made possible by the ‘good offices’ of the Vatican, who alone can be the symbol of unity to which they can look.”

Few see the signs of the Vatican playing this role, so far. Many of Europe’s modern leaders are from Europe’s very secular, multicultural left. But now, as Europe is becoming increasingly desperate for unity—with the euro, the border-free Schengen zone, and even the European Union itself under threat—we’re seeing more signs that it will look to the Vatican.

Paris Attacks Reveal the Outlines of a New Europe

A smaller EU with its own army can already be seen on the horizon.

“Europe will be forged in crises and will be the sum of the solutions adopted for those crises.” Those famous words from one of the European Union’s founding fathers, Jean Monnet, explain much of what is happening in Europe. The economic crisis is forcing the political union that EU leaders could not get voters to agree to. And now, in the aftermath of the Paris attacks, new, major changes are afoot.

Externally, Europe is being forced into the Middle East. France’s decision to invoke the EU’s self-defense clause instead of nato’s will have major implications for the union’s defense arrangement.

The Foundation is Crumbling

All signs point to an EU crumbling, however, do not take into account further integration among nations who are willing to stay in. For Europe, because of its own national security and the not-so-dependable NATO, it must and will remain together in some form or another due to the Russian threat next door. Perhaps in the future, to mitigate this threat, Russia might even join the EU bloc in one form or another. One thing is clear: The EU will burn down, but another state will rise out of its ashes: The United States of Europe.

 

 

 

COPENHAGEN/HELSINKI/LONDON/THE HAGUE (Own report) – Demands to halt EU expansion and even begin to scale it back are being raised in several northern and northwestern European countries. In last Thursday’s referendum, the Danish population rejected the proposal for Denmark to adopt EU domestic and judicial policies. Denmark will therefore retain its “opt-out,” obtained following its “No”-majority in a referendum on the Maastricht Treaty, in 1992. There is also little chance that Denmark will join a common EU foreign and military policy, in the near future, as favored by Berlin and Brussels. Because the single currency is perceived as the reason for Finland’s economic crisis, that country’s parliament will soon debate whether to hold a referendum on leaving the Euro zone. Great Britain will hold a referendum on exiting the EU by 2017, at the latest, with already a majority in favor, according to recent polls. In the Netherlands, demands are being raised to reduce the Schengen Zone to a “mini-Schengen.” Following the convulsions in Southern Europe, the EU project – the foundation of German global policy – is also beginning to crumble in the North.

Report: Greece threatened with Schengen suspension

If it does not improve control of its borders and reception of migrants, Greece could be faced with a suspension from the free movement Schengen area.

According to the Financial Times, the threat has been made to the Greek government by several EU officials including Luxembourg’s foreign minister Jean Asselborn, whose country holds the EU rotating presidency.

EU interior ministers meeting in Brussels Thursday (3 December) are expected to ask for more measures from Greece to control the flow of refugees to Europe, improve registration, and step up cooperation with the EU.
