President Donald Trump signed an order Tuesday outlining his vision for a new “Space Force” that could one day become a separate military branch on an equal footing to the Army and Navy.

Trump wants to create a space force to protect satellites, tackle vulnerabilities in space and assert US dominance in orbit.

Iran launches rocket in latest step toward putting military satellites in orbit

Iran announced Thursday that the country had successfully launched into space one of its “Simorgh” rockets capable of putting 250-kg satellites into orbit. No other details were given.

Will Suicide Satellites Be Part of Space Warfare?

Warfare in outer space is almost inevitable. The question isn’t really if weapons in space will become commonplace, it’s what they’ll look like when they are. Hollywood has already offered us some action-packed theories, but missiles, projectile explosives, and high-powered lasers may remain the stuff of science fiction. Recent events suggest that “suicide satellites,” orbital battering rams more or less, will be — at least at first — the more appropriate ballistic for war above the worlds.

In fact, there is reason to believe that Russia is already moving in that direction. Putin’s boys recently launched satellites into low Earth orbit that seem to have the hallmarks of bumper cars. The Russian government claims that there’s nothing to worry about, but, well, they’ve said that before.

Chinese military could soon disable sensors on enemy missiles using suitcase-sized device after ‘groundbreaking’ study on ultrafast lasers

A breakthrough in laser technology may give the Chinese military the ability to blind the sensors on enemy missiles or even satellites using a portable device the size of a suitcase, rather than the large container-sized version typically found on warships.

A research team led by Professor Li Zhiyuan with the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Physics reported that they had reduced the sophisticated mechanism that generates a high-frequency laser down to a single piece of crystal.

This means the huge ultrafast laser generator that is used to render heat-seeking missiles useless, and which can be found on warships today, could be shrunk to the size of hand baggage and mounted on aircraft, tanks or even soldiers.

North Korea says it has restarted all nuclear bomb fuel plants

Announcement comes day after Pyongyang said it is ready to launch ‘satellites’ on long-range rockets

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — A day after threatening rocket launches, North Korea declared Tuesday that it has revamped and restarted all its atomic bomb fuel production plants.

The back-to-back announcements, which many outside analysts consider threats designed to spur talks with the United States that could eventually provide impoverished North Korea with concessions, will push Pyongyang further toward a standoff with Washington and its allies.

World Powers Are Preparing for Space Warfare

The entire network of U.S. military and intelligence satellites may soon be controlled through a single command center, jointly operated by the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community.

There are high-level discussions now taking place about the command center. Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Welsh told Breaking Defense those involved in the discussion include White House officials, the National Security Council, Defense Secretary Ash Carter, Deputy Defense Secretary Bob Work, the Air Force Secretary, and Strategic Command and Space Command.

“All the pieces are there,” he said. “We just need to make sure all the authorities are clear, and that’s the difficult part.”

Pentagon Preps for Orbital War With New Spaceplane

 

The XS-1 could replace satellites lost in battle—fast and cheap.

Aerospace giant Boeing just snagged a $6.6 million contract to design a cheap, reusable spaceplane for the U.S. military. The idea: to equip America’s space forces with an airplane-like vehicle that can fly to the edge of Earth’s atmosphere and quickly boost small satellites into orbit, and then land, refuel, load up another satellite, and take off again within 24 hours.

The so-called XS-1 program—short for “eXperimental Spaceplane 1”—isn’t a space weapon. Instead, it’s a sort of defense against space weapons—specifically, the growing fleets of killer spacecraft and satellite-destroying rockets that China and Russia are deploying.

A Space War With China or Russia Is a Real Threat

America could’ve been the king of space decades ago and the the fate of the nation wouldn’t be in jeopardy, but it suicidally chose to abandon Reagan’s Star Wars space warfare program. Sadly, most people in the press are far behind in recognizing this or choose to look the other way and ignore it. The unintelligent community which has a bad habit of being years behind in detecting threats, only to be routinely ‘shocked’ when they ‘suddenly’ discover it, is of more concern.

 

A war in space sounds like a great plot for a summer blockbuster.

Unfortunately, a conflict in space isn’t just a Hollywood movie script anymore, but a threat in the real world.

Both Russia and China have developed, or are developing, the ability to shoot satellites out of space.

The Voice of America writes today about the expectations of Russia regarding the upcoming Syrian negotiations. Recent efforts made by the United Nations to resolve the crisis in Syria could lead to success in a united struggle against Islamic State. The fact is that the destabilization of the situation around ISIS is becoming a threat to the global community, and attempts by Syrian factions to join the terrorist organization, can serve as a prerequisite for the West and Russia to seek common solutions to the crisis.

Islamic State, a radical Sunni Muslim organization, holds militias in Syria and Iraq, and remains the most unpredictable force in the world, which threatens the stability of many countries in the Middle East. In order to face the very serious threat from ISIS, Europe and Russia should forget their differences and unite efforts, otherwise the world’s boundaries may change forever.

China Missile Test Highlights Space Weapons Threat

China’s recent test of a missile designed to shoot down satellites in low-earth orbit highlights a growing threat of space weapons, the commander of the U.S. Strategic Command said on Tuesday.

Adm. Cecil D. Haney, head of the Omaha-based nuclear forces command, also voiced worries about the strategic nuclear forces buildup by Russia and China, and said as commander he must assume North Korea is correct in claiming to have miniaturized a nuclear warhead for its missile forces.

Haney also warned about the use of sophisticated cyber attacks by terrorist groups such as the Islamic State (IS), also known as ISIS or ISIL.

Israeli TV shows ‘Iranian missile’ that ‘can reach far beyond Europe’

Iran has built a 27-meter-long missile, capable of delivering a warhead “far beyond Europe,” and placed it on a launch pad at a site close to Tehran, an Israeli television report said Wednesday, showing what it said were the first satellite images of the missile ever seen in the West.

It stressed that the missile could be used to launch spacecraft or satellites, but also to carry warheads.

Strong geomagnetic storm hits earth

Although not mentioned, this could very likely be related to the newly formed ‘coronal hole’ opening up on the sun.

 

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) – The Space Weather Prediction Center issued a warning for a large geomagnetic storm on Wednesday morning.

The NOAA organization said the primary areas that would be affected would be in the northern portion of the northern hemisphere.

China’s President Xi urges greater military use of space

BEIJING (Reuters) – Chinese President Xi Jinping urged the air force to adopt an integrated air and space defence capability, in what state media on Tuesday called a response to the increasing military use of space by the United States and others.

While Beijing insists its space program is for peaceful purposes, a Pentagon report last year highlighted China’s increasing space capabilities and said Beijing was pursuing a variety of activities aimed at preventing its adversaries from using space-based assets during a crisis.

Fears of a space arms race with the United States and other powers mounted after China blew up one of its own weather satellites with a ground-based missile in January 2007.

A detailed analysis of satellite imagery published in March provided additional evidence that a Chinese rocket launch in May 2013, billed as a research mission, was actually a test of a new anti-satellite weapon.

China nuclear subs ‘gallop to depths of ocean’

While “assassin’s mace” may sound like new vocabulary for some, it’s not. Assassin’s mace has been mentioned quite a few times by the PLA over the years as a method of catching the United States off guard by blinding it before it strikes the American homeland. Blinding US satellite capability is part of this strategy, which would in turn wreak havoc or severly hamper the US Navy’s ability to defend the Pacific or the US Air Force’s ability to fully function as it should. The US is overly reliant upon technology at its own peril, and at the same time refuses to enter the space arena where China and Russia are advancing their “Star Wars” programs in order to attain full spectrum dominance over America.

China has revealed that its first fleet of nuclear submarines has started sea patrols, in the latest sign of its military’s growing confidence which has raised concerns in the region.

Xinhua, the official news agency, released photographs of what appeared to be Xia-class vessels – China’s first generation of nuclear-armed submarines, which are several decades old – saying they were being “declassified” for the first time.

It said the submarines would “gallop to the depths of the ocean, serving as mysterious forces igniting the sound of thunder in the deep sea”, and be an “assassin’s mace that would make adversaries tremble”.
