The military build-up in the Arctic is underway.
In 2014 Russia will create a new military structure, which will be called the Northern Fleet – United Strategic Command (NF-USC). General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces informed that the mission of the new unit would be the protection of Russian national interests in the Arctic.
The active work in this direction started last year, after President Putin’s televised appeal to the Minister of Defense “to pay special attention to deploying infrastructure and military units in the Arctic.” Continue reading

Russian membership in the European Union within 30 years would benefit both sides by combining the trading bloc’s diversified economy with its eastern neighbor’s energy resources, Czech President Milos Zeman said.
“I support, in the very long-term point of view, the entrance of the Russian Federation into the European Union, maybe after 20 years, after 30 years,” Zeman, 69, said in an interview in Prague yesterday. “On the one side, there’s the very modern, very productive economy of western Europe. On the other side,” there’s a “country with enormous energy resources, but not a diversified economic structure.” Continue reading
MUNICH – The EU commissioner who, over the past five years, tried and failed to get Ukraine to sign up to pro-EU reforms has said only the promise of accession can change former Soviet states.
“If we are serious about helping this part of Europe to transform, the association agreement is only the first step. The next one should be the light at the end of the tunnel. You can’t transform this part of Europe without using this most powerful instrument [enlargement],” former Czech diplomat Stefan Fuele told a congress of European and US security chiefs in Munich on Saturday (2 February).
Romanian President Traian Basescu backed him up. Continue reading

Syrian opposition elements claimed on Monday that a Russian navy ship, which has docked for a long time in the vicinity of the Latakia port, has left its harbor.
In addition, it was reported by opposition sources that thousands of family members of top official and figures in the Syria regime escaped to Lebanon and to Latakia. These reports were not confirmed by other sources. Continue reading
From the Russian government itself:

The Soviets now, once again, placed nuclear missiles in Cuba. Florida can now be nuked in under 10 minutes.
Make no mistake, the Cold War never ended. This is only a continuance of it which is merely in the final stages. The Soviets are beginning to take their masks off. Where is the nation’s leadership? Obama is no JFK — and JFK was well aware of the threat and how serious it was. He even mentioned that there was an atomic bomb in the nation’s capital.
This is unprecedented, not in the news (like many other things) and the American public is almost completely unaware.
The American “Shopping Mall Regime” is too busy paying attention to Kim Kardashian and the Olympics.
Straight from the state-owned (KGB) Soviet media:
The Russian government intends to restore the military-technical support of their ships at the former military base in Cam Ranh (Vietnam), Lourdes (Cuba) and the Seychelles. So far, this is not about plans for a military presence, but rather the restoration of the crew resources. However, a solid contractual basis should be developed for these plans.
The intentions were announced on July 27 by the Russian Navy Commander Vice Admiral Viktor Chirkov. “At the international level, the creation of logistics points in Cuba, the Seychelles and Vietnam is being worked out,” Chirkov was quoted by the media. The issue was specifically discussed at the meeting with the leaders of all countries. President of Vietnam Truong Tan Sang has recently held talks with Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev in Moscow and President Putin in Sochi. Cuban leader Raul Castro met with Putin in Moscow earlier this month. A little earlier the President of the Republic of Seychelles, James Michel made an unequivocal statement.
The Russian Federation has fulfilled all terms of the agreement. And even more. I shut down not only the Cuban Lourdes but also Kamran in Vietnam. I shut them down because I gave my word of honor. I, like a man, has kept my word. What have the Americans done? The Americans are not responsible for their own words. It is no secret that in recent years, the U.S. created a buffer zone around Russia, involving in this process not only the countries of Central Europe, but also the Baltic states, Ukraine and the Caucasus. The only response to this could be an asymmetric expansion of the Russian military presence abroad, particularly in Cuba. In Cuba, there are convenient bays for our reconnaissance and warships, a network of the so-called “jump airfields.” With the full consent of the Cuban leadership, on May 11 of this year, our country has not only resumed work in the electronic center of Lourdes, but also placed the latest mobile strategic nuclear missiles “Oak” on the island. They did not want to do it the amicable way, now let them deal with this,” Putin said.

About 40 strategic bombers will participate in five-day drills in Russia’s Maritime Territory near the Japanese border, Defense Ministry spokesman Col. Vladimir Drik said on Monday.
Japan has been concerned by Russian warplane flights near its coast.
In early February, a total of five Russian aircraft, including two Tu-95 Bear strategic bombers, two Su-24 Fencer reconnaissance planes and an A-50 Mainstay airborne early warning and control aircraft flew close to Japanese territory, without intruding into its airspace, however.

Unpopular opinion going against the grain that is highly interesting and well researched:
The first thing we’re going to do is admit that this is a touchy subject. We know that people will not be happy with us about this information. Nevertheless we hope this information will explain why Ron Paul is a shady choice for President. These are the facts. This is the truth about Ron Paul. But first, in order to understand Ron Paul we have to take a good hard look at his primary supporters. We begin with Alex Jones.
Alex Jones himself has featured prominently on Russian television. RT, previously known as Russia Today, is a government-funded global multilingual television news network based in the Russian Federation. It was founded in 2005 as Russia Today by the government-owned RIA Novosti.
Ron Paul actually raised one million dollars from the Russian government-funded group at RT (Russian Television). A commentator on the Russian government-funded television news network RT boasted of a $1 million “money bomb” on behalf of U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination.
The donation raised legal questions, because while the commentator happens to be an American, allowing him to donate to Paul’s presidential campaign, foreign entities such as RT are prohibited. (see here)

The Yury Dolgoruky is the first of the new Borei (North Wind) class of ballistic submarines replacing earlier Soviet-era subs. Although the United States still has the edge in nuclear submarine numbers and effectiveness, Moscow and its allies are demonstrating the will to challenge the United States, but America seems unaware of this multi-national assertion of new-found strength.
For the United States, the period from initial design to implementation of a new major weapons system can take decades. A new model nuclear submarine, for instance, will take about 20 years from drawing board to acceptance into the active fleet, according to Rick Norris, a former U.S. intelligence analyst with over two decades of experience.
Norris, however, is more alarmed at the small and ageing number of individuals who can design nuclear weapons systems for America’s future needs. Norris informed International News Analysis Today that the shrinking and ageing number of U.S. nuclear weapons designers “is of significant concern to our strategic planners and is a current topic under discussion, if not at the highest levels, at least at intermediate military strategic planning levels.”
It is at the “intermediate military strategic planning” levels where scientific development meets military requirements and realities.
American weapons design is increasingly dependent on foreign scientists working in the U.S., in large part because mathematics, physics, and related sciences are deemphasized in the American educational system, Norris stated.
While Moscow has its problems in design and implementation, governmental commitment at the highest levels is not one of them. But, for many in the U.S. government, and those influencing the mass media – liberal and conservative — Moscow remains a post-Cold War stereotype: a weak nation and an insignificant player on the world scene.

There are no permanent friends and enemies in international politics because friendship and enmity change in accordance with the states’ interests which are of primary importance.
In this regard, after having strong relationship with the United States for more than 60 years, a shift has occurred in Pak-US ties because of a number of reasons, and Pakistan has inclined towards the Russian Federation which also needs the latter. So a new era has started in Pak-Russia relations.
