When you see stories like this, you know why it’s often said here Asian nations such as Japan will eventually fold under pressure only to join a regional Asian bloc headed by China and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. With the United States in suicidal decline, rising doubts about its will and capability, it’s better to join than face being wiped off the map by a Sino-Soviet attack.

 

Russia’s Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu has ordered the speeding up of military construction on the strategic Kuril Islands, just 3 miles off the coast of Japan.

Russia is to have 14 operational airfields in the Arctic by the end of the year, state media quoted defence officials as saying on 13 January.

Ten airfields will be constructed by the end of 2015, in addition to the four already in use, deputy defence minister Dmitry Bulgakov reportedly said, according to the state-controlled Sputnik news agency.

Russian Air Force Boosts Presence in Arctic

MOSCOW, July 10 (RIA Novosti) – Russian long-range aviation bases are increasing their presence in the Arctic, the press service of the Eastern Military District reported Thursday.

“The crews of Tupolev Tu-95MS strategic bombers at the Arctic long-range aviation base in Amur Region, have tripled their flying rate this year. Russia to Build 150 Military Facilities on Kuril Islands

MOSCOW, April 18 (RIA Novosti) – Russia will build more than 150 military facilities on the Iturup and Kunashir islands, part of the Kuril chain disputed by Japan, a senior military commander told reporters Friday.

“All decisions on the construction of military stations on the Iturup and Kunashir islands have been made and approved,” said Col. Gen. Sergei Suvorkin, the head of Russia’s Eastern Military District.

Russia, India Prepare for INDRA-2012 Military Drills

Russia and India started on Monday the preparation for joint INDRA-2012 military exercises scheduled to be held in Russia this summer, a spokesman for Russia’s Eastern Military District said.

“An Indian military delegation arrived on Monday in Ulan Ude [in Russia’s Far East] to discuss the preparation for INDRA-2012 military drills to be held this summer,” Lt. Col. Alexander Gordeyev said.

Russian and Indian military officials will reconnoiter the terrain at the training range where the drills will be held, the spokesman said.

Since 2003, India and Russia have conducted five of the INDRA series joint ground and naval exercises. The last such exercise was held between Russian and Indian army units in India in October 2010.
