The Russian armed forces’ strategic missile command (RVSN) have ordered a snap inspection of the state of the nuclear arsenal in one of the country’s central military bases near the city of Yoshkar-Ola.
While the tests will entail an assessment of the nuclear storage facilities, fire safety and general hazard-containment conditions of the Yoshkar-Ola RVSN base, according to Yegorov servicemen will also be given a rudimentary test on nuclear arms operation. Continue reading
MOSCOW, January 29. /TASS/. The 100-ton ballistic missile Sarmat may be test launched in one or 1.5 years after its drop tests that are planned for 2015, a Russian defense industry source told TASS on Thursday.
“If everything goes according to plan during the drop tests, if they pass successfully, then in a year or 1.5 years the missile will be test launched,” the source said. Continue reading
The Strategic Missile Forces (RVSN), which control Russia’s Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs), began a snap drill on January 20, the reports said, citing a press release from the RVSN. The drills, which are taking place in Western Siberia, will include 1,200 RVSN troops who will perform over 20 different tasks. Emergencies Ministry’s troops, as well as Internal Ministry and Federal Security Service forces, were expected to participate in aspects of the drills. Continue reading
