Former oil exec: $5-a-gallon gas on the way

You have to basically be out of your mind to believe that lower prices are a good thing during this time. The average American citizen in the last eight years has been so inundated with the cost of everything soaring that this money they’re now saving on gas now won’t be used to get put back into the economy. They’re either going to park it in their savings account, pay their bills or increase their debt. This is also further explained and concretely supported in the previous post “Americans: One Small Emergency Away From the Street“.

This oil war also means that many smaller companies that need to see oil over $80 a barrel, for example, to make a profit will go under. That means more unemployment. The only thing that will keep that from happening, and yes it is a given, is the buying out of these smaller oil firms by larger ones who can survive (but not forever) these low prices. Think ahead while you enjoy these low prices now, because they will skyrocket — along with the price of every other essential good.

Also, expect to see in typical fashion the simple minded will blaming ‘big oil’, their favorite after ‘evil banker’, and not see the bigger picture: There’s a war between Russia and the West that’s causing all of this. What is causing the war between Russian in the West is also another story all together. What we’re watching now is tantamount to seeing beach goers watching the water recede half a mile and then proceed to walk further inward where the water once was thinking it’s fun as they collect shells, play and run around on the ocean floor. Yet what they don’t know is that is a precursor for a tidal wave only moments away and they will be caught up in it.

Enjoy your prices now, but be smart and use this to plan ahead in any way that is beneficial for you — i.e. storing gasoline for when the prices predictably go sky-high. A $250 investment at this moment might save you $750 in five months from now.

 

John Hofmeister attracted national attention in 2010 when he predicted that average U.S. gasoline prices would soar to $5 a gallon in 2012, thanks to rising crude oil prices. His forecast fell short, as the cost of filling up flirted with $4 in 2012, but never went higher.

Now, with gasoline prices at $2.14, their lowest level since May 2009, the former president of Shell Oil is issuing another warning, telling motorists that their joy ride may end sooner than they think.

Russia Prepares for War

Last month the grand old man of Russian politics, Yevgeny Primakov, made some rather telling statements during an interview for Russia Beyond the Headlines. Of course, Primakov justified Russia’s annexation of Crimea, but admitted that any insertion of Russian troops into southeast Ukraine would prove to be a “dead end.” According to Primakov such a move would effectively curtail trends which Russia is relying on for future success.

What are these “trends”?

Primakov did not directly say, but a short list might read as follows:  Germany’s gradual drift into Moscow’s orbit, the establishment of Russian military bases in the Caribbean, the rise of Chinese military power in the Pacific, and the ongoing decline of the U.S. economy. Russia stands to gain from each of these “trends.” Even if Moscow is eager to smash Ukraine’s independence movement, it is best to wait. Why disrupt an otherwise favorable situation, especially as the United States continues to weaken?

Latin America File: Russia hails formation of Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, “anti-imperialist” regional bloc embraces Cuba, excludes USA and Canada, widely perceived as counterweight to OAS; Pravda praises “socialist tide sweeping” South America

While most eyes have been fixated on China, Russia, Europe or the middle east over the years; in our own backyard Latin America has been forming into a regional hegemonic bloc, threat and challenge to the United States.

Finally, Pravda notes with satisfaction the devotion of Latin America’s Red Axis leaders to Russia, Cuba, China, and Iran, as well as regional integration:

Chavez, Morales and Correa are charismatic leaders who have gained global admiration and support. They favor a multi-polar world, anti-imperialism and anti-capitalism. They share strong ties to other Latin American countries, Cuba, China, Russia and Iran.

Latin American strength is founded on unification. Chavez, Morales and Correa are fiery champions of ALBA (Alliance for the Peoples of our America), UNASUR (Union of South American Nations) and the newly created CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States). Latin America has its own virtual currency, the SUCRE, and its own regional bank, BANCO DEL SUR.

Something tells me, though, that even if a Republican returns to the White House in 2013, Washington’s response to the “Red Spread” south of the border will be piecemeal at best. The Oval Office needs the robust ideological presence of another Ronald Reagan, in our opinion, America’s last great president.

Incidentally, Communist China, which had virtually no presence in Latin America and the Caribbean during the Cold War, has carved out new niches in this region, including one that suggests a “Red Cocaine” scenario.

Earlier this month, the Mexican navy reported the seizure of 195 tons of methylamine, a chemical used to make the synthetic drug methamphetamine, as well as synthetic cocaine. Mexican authorities found 12 shipping containers full of this precursor chemical at the Pacific coast port of Lazaro Cardenas. The shipment originated in Red China and was destined for Guatemala and Nicaragua. Mexican navy officials said the drug cartels terrorizing their country have expanded their methamphetamine operations to Guatemala. Not so coincidentally, the port facility at Lazaro Cardenas is operated by Hutchison-Whampoa, which is owned by Hong Kong billionaire Li Ka-shing, who in turn is closely allied with the Communist Party of China.

According to a 2011 report by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, the world’s main producers of synthetic drugs remain the Netherlands and Myanmar (Burma), but manufacture has lately spread to Latin America.
