Iran: U.S. Encouraging Islamic Republic to Keep Illicit Missile Tests Secret

A senior Iranian military commander claimed that U.S. officials are quietly encouraging the Islamic Republic to keep its illicit ballistic missile tests a secret so as not to raise concerns in the region, according to Persian language comments.

Amir Ali Hajizadeh, commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Aerospace and Missile Force, said in recent remarks that the Obama administration does not want Iran to publicize its ongoing missile tests, which have raised questions about the Islamic Republic’s commitment to last summer’s comprehensive nuclear agreement. Khamenei’s letter checks Rouhani, asserts authority over Iran nuclear deal

Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei has the power to at any time cancel the nuclear deal with world powers, analysts said on Oct. 25.

Yigal Carmon, the president of the Washington-based Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), and Ayelet Savyon, the head of the institute’s Iran desk, wrote in an analysis that Khamenei, in a letter to President Hassan Rouhani, essentially granted himself the power to void the deal.

Carmon and Savyon write that Khamenei is ultimately looking to stall implementation of the agreement in order to hurt Iran’s moderates, headed by Hashemi Rafsanjani and Rouhani, and their chances in February 2016 Majlis and Assembly of Experts elections. Continue reading

Hezbollah Threatens “Tens of Thousands” Israeli Deaths

When following the new stories lately, one might realize the bigger picture in that all sides seem fully prepared and braced for conflict. The only missing component is what sparks the fire that will engulf the entire Middle Eastern region. A sudden and imminent collapse of the Syrian regime could be once such factor. The use of chemical or biological weapons will also mean all bets are off the table and Damascus is likely to be razed.

The leader of the terror group Hezbollah has vowed to unleash a barrage of missile attacks on Israel, potentially causing “tens of thousands of fatalities” in the Jewish state’s northern region, according to a recently translated interview.

Hassan Nasrallah, the terror group’s longtime leader, briefly emerged from hiding late last week to discuss Hezbollah’s ability to “turn the lives of millions of Zionist Israelis in all of occupied Palestine into a living hell,” according an interview with Al-Manar TV that was translated Wednesday by the Middle East Media Research Institute.

“We are capable of changing the face of Israel,” Nasrallah said. “I say to the Israelis: There are a number of targets” in Israel that can be “reached by several precise missiles.”

“We possess such missiles,” Narallah added, confirming suspicion’s that Hezbollah has been stockpiling more sophisticated weaponry. “Striking these targets—which I will not name—with only a few missiles will turn the lives of hundreds of thousands of Zionists into a living hell. We may be talking about tens of thousands of fatalities.”

“We have the coordinates of these targets,” Nasrallah said. “Our missiles are set in secret locations and are aimed at these targets.”
