On October 18, 2015, the day set as Adoption Day for the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the Iranian leadership continues to come out with statements opposing Iran’s approval of it.

In the past few days, Iranian officials have clarified that Iran’s Majlis, Supreme National Security Council, and Guardian Council have not approved the JCPOA; Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei tweeted, and posted on his Facebook page, an announcement titled “Negotiation With America Is Forbidden”; and other Iranian officials have stated that Iran is expecting the U.S. to announce that the sanctions have been terminated, not suspended as the JCPOA stipulates.

In light of these developments, it is not clear whether Iran will officially announce its “adoption” of the JCPOA. It is also not clear whether the U.S. will announce its suspension of sanctions and the E.U. will announce its termination of sanctions, as per the agreement. Continue reading

U.S. downplays Iranian victory to ‘soothe’ fear over deal

Senior Iranian officials are accusing the Obama administration of lying about the details of the recent nuclear accord in order to soothe fears among U.S. lawmakers and Americans about the implications of the deal, which will release billions of dollars to the Islamic Republic while temporarily freezing its nuclear program, according to reports from Iran’s state-controlled media. Obama administration approved green cards for Iran MPs

The barbarians are not at the gate. The barbarians are in the within the gates and the red carpet has been rolled out for them.

NICOSIA — The administration of President Barack Obama has quietly approved permanent residence status to Iranian officials and parliamentarians.

Iranian parliamentarians have reported that scores of senior Teheran regime representatives were issued documents that allowed them to live and work in the United States. They said some of the Iranians also acquired U.S. citizenship.

The letter by the parliamentarians, most linked to opponents of President Hassan Rowhani, did not identify the Iranians provided citizenship or so-called Green Cards, Middle East Newsline reported. But the Iranian media said the letter referred to Rowhani’s chief of staff, Mohammed Nahavandian, educated in the United States and said to have obtained a Green Card in 1993. Continue reading

NYPD says Iran has conducted surveillance in NYC

Authorities have interviewed at least 13 people since 2005 with ties to Iran’s government who were seen taking pictures of New York City landmarks, a senior New York Police Department official said Wednesday.

U.S. officials long have worried that Iran would use Hezbollah to carry out attacks inside the United States. And Iran was previously accused in a disrupted plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the U.S. here last year, a plan interpreted in the U.S. intelligence community as a clear message that Iran is not afraid to carry out an attack inside this country.

In January, James Clapper, the top U.S. intelligence official, said some Iranian officials are probably “more willing to conduct an attack in the United States in response to real or perceived U.S. actions that threaten the regime.”

Iran Prepared To Launch Terrorist Attacks Inside US – Intel Chief

Iran is prepared to launch terrorist attacks inside the United States in response to perceived threats from America and its allies, U.S. Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said on Tuesday in testimony before the Senate Select Intelligence Committee.

An alleged Iranian conspiracy to assassinate the Saudi ambassador in Washington, which was revealed last year, “shows that some Iranian officials — probably including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei — have changed their calculus and are now more willing to conduct an attack in the United States in response to real or perceived U.S. actions that threaten the regime,” Clapper said in testimony submitted to the committee, which was holding a hearing on “World Wide Threats.”

“We are also concerned about Iranian plotting against U.S. or allied interests overseas,” Clapper said.

Also, Iran appears to be “keeping open the option to develop nuclear weapons,” Clapper said, while noting that “we do not know” what the leaders inside the Islamic Republic will decide.
