This is a developing story: Military jets and helicopters seen flying low over Ankara and tanks reported in the streets, as two major bridges in Istanbul are closed to traffic.

Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said a military coup attempt is currently underway and that military action has been taken without a chain of command, according to local media NTV.

Russia is developing a new generation nuclear-powered naval destroyer that will pack more firepower than anything the US Navy can offer.

Though still on the drawing board, the new Lider-class nuclear destroyer is expected to displace more water than its existing Sarych-class analogue and will boast the firepower of a cruiser.

Moreover, it is going to be virtually invisible to enemy radar.

Russia and Indonesia sign defence co-operation agreement

The presidents of Russia and Indonesia have signed a defence co-operation accord in Sochi, it was reported on 19 May.

Full details of the agreement signed by presidents Vladimir Putin and Joko Widodo were not disclosed. But the heads of state said in a joint statement that they had agreed to widen contacts between defence ministries and security agencies and to conduct an exchange of intelligence information.

Russian army to receive over 250 planes and other aircraft in 2015

 

MOSCOW, May 20 /TASS/. The Russian army will receive over 250 aircraft, including planes, helicopters and drones, in 2015, Russia’s First Deputy Defense Minister Arkady Bakhin said on Wednesday.

The Russian Air Force will receive more than 200 new warplanes and helicopters by the end of 2014, Russian Air Force commander in chief Viktor Bondarev said on August 12. The announcement came just weeks after Moscow had announced that its naval force would get more than 50 new vessels by the end of the year.

Pentagon Stands By Russian Arms Deal

The issue here shouldn’t be over training, it should be that the United States is now relying on Russia for military hardware.

MOSCOW, July 18 (RIA Novosti) – The Pentagon has no plans to halt a $550 million deal with Russia to acquire helicopters for the Afghan Special Mission Wing, the chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff said Thursday.

In late June the Special US Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction urged the Pentagon to put the deal on hold until the unit was fully recruited and properly trained.
