Iran Releases Video Showing Arrival Of First Russian S-300 Missile System

Israel also chimed in and “expressed alarm” over Putin’s announcement that he was lifting the block on the transfer of the controversial weapons system to Tehran, against which both the US and Israel have lobbied hard. “There is concern that the S-300 would seriously complicate any attempt at military intervention against Iranian nuclear facilities” CNN reported.

A senior Israeli official told Haaretz on Monday night that the Kremlin briefed Israel on its decision a short while before announcing the move. The official said Israel is also worried components of the air-defense system will be transferred to Syria and Hezbollah, seriously hamstringing the air force’s ability to dominate the skies over Lebanon or Syria. “Are we at war?” asked Nigerian writer Victor Ehikhamenor in an article for cnn last month. He painted a shocking picture of a cycle of violence that we hear too little about in the Western media.

“Suicide bombing, towns and villages getting blown up, allegations of extra-judicial killings by the police and the military, kidnappings, terrorist attacks on government establishments—total confusion and a lack of solutions to the violence is no longer just news, but a terrifying daily reality show,” he wrote (May 20). Obama warns Syria’s Assad: Use of chemical weapons a ‘red line’ for U.S.

President Barack Obama on Monday warned Syrian President Bashar Assad that the use or deployment of chemical or biological weapons in his country’s conflict would be a “red line” for the United States as it views Damascus’s suppression of the uprising.

“A red line for us is (if) we see a whole bunch of chemical weapons moving around, or being utilized. That would change my calculus,” Obama said.

“It doesn’t just include Syria. It would concern allies in the region, including Israel, and it would concern us,” Obama said.
