Angela Merkel faces a defining moment in her political career as chorus of voices push for Greek debt relief
Germany is at last bowing to pressure as a chorus of countries and key institutions demand debt relief for Greece, a shift that could break the five-month stalemate and avert a potentially disastrous rupture of monetary union at this Sunday’s last-ditch summit.
In a highly significant move, the European Council has called on both sides to make major concessions, insisting that the creditor powers must do their part as the radical Syriza government puts forward a new raft of proposals on economic reforms before a deadline expires tonight.

Russia and China signed a cybersecurity agreement on May 8, saying they will not conduct cyberattacks against each other. The deal also said the two would work together to counteract technologies they perceive as destabilizing to their internal affairs.
The text of the agreement is posted on the Russian government’s website. It says the two nations also agreed to share information between law enforcement agencies. In addition, they will freely exchange technologies and work together toward security of their information infrastructure. Oleg Demidov, a cybersecurity consultant at the pir Center, said the deal was an “important step” for the two nations. He said it accelerates Russia’s “pivoting to the East.”
There are new reports of a sharp deterioration in the health of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Hoseini Khamenei [denied as propaganda by the regime].
On March 4, he was reportedly hospitalized in critical condition and has undergone emergency surgery according to sources.
Significantly, the Iranian sources did not mention the success of the operation.
French medical experts were called to Tehran. They reported that Khamenei’s prostate cancer had spread beyond control.
