Some very smart people say that robots are going to steal your job.
Researchers at Oxford University estimate that 47 percent of U.S. jobs could be replaced by robots, automated technology and automated intelligence (AI) within the next 20 years. Jeff Hesse, PwC principal and U.S. people and organization co-leader, tells CNBC Make It, “The displacement is already beginning to happen.”
Elon Musk told the National Governors Association, “There certainly will be job disruption. Because what’s going to happen is robots will be able to do everything better than us.” Musk even went so far as to say that “AI is a fundamental risk to the existence of human civilization.”
Elon Musk is leading demands for a global ban on killer robots, warning technological advances could revolutionise warfare and create new “weapons of terror” that target innocent people.
The CEO of Tesla and SpaceX joined more than 100 robotics and artificial intelligence entrepreneurs in signing a letter to the United Nations calling for action to prevent the development of autonomous weapons. Continue reading
Is Elon Musk really wrong? Is Robin Chase, the founder of Zipcar, really wrong? Aren’t they smarter than me? Yes, they are.
They are all building rockets into space and teleportation machines and revolutionizing entire industries. But I’m absolutely sure they are wrong about robots. And history backs me up on this. Common sense backs me up on this. Basic counter-examples back me up on this.
