Russian authorities and major telecom operators are preparing to disconnect the country from the world wide web as part of an exercise to prepare for future cyber attacks, Russian news agency RosBiznesKonsalting (RBK) reported last week.

The Russian government has revealed plans to develop an ‘independent internet’ that operates separately from the Domain Name System used worldwide. According to Russian news site RT, Russian President Vladimir Putin (pictured) is targeting August 1, 2018 for its completion

Turkey under cyberattack by Russia: Report

Several Turkish websites have been under cyberattack for four days, with Russian hackers claimed to be prime suspects behind the attack, daily Hürriyet has reported.

Among the websites who have been under cyberattack since the morning of Dec. 14 were those of governmental bodies whose extension is “.tr.” The cyberattack has brought about a serious halt in official processes as well as financial losses of private business organizations. Continue reading

US Federal Reserve Bank Hit by Hackers

Hackers successfully attacked the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, redirecting users of its online research services to fake websites set up by the attackers, the bank said on Tuesday.

The fake websites were designed to look like the web pages of services provided by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. The attack compromised the Internet’s routing system, known as the domain name system (DNS). Continue reading
