Some 50 nuclear bombs at a launching pad of the U.S.-led coalition battling ISIS come under criticism after the failed military coup in Turkey.

Incirlik, located just 110 kilometers (70 miles) from the border with Syria, is a major NATO base and a crucial launching pad for the U.S.-led coalition battling ISIS.

“Whether the U.S. could have maintained control of the weapons in the event of a protracted civil conflict in Turkey is an unanswerable question,” said the report by the Stimson Center, a Washington-based nonprofit institution devoted to enhancing international peace, according to AFP. U.S. Intel: Turkey’s purge of military has undercut U.S. operations against ISIL

U.S. Director of National Intelligence James Clapper says Turkey’s purge of military leaders is hurting efforts to defeat the Islamic State militant group.

Clapper and U.S. Central Command chief General Joseph Votel said at the Aspen Security Forum in Colorado on July 28 that the purge had swept aside many Turkish officers who assisted the United States in its efforts to defeat IS, and landed some of them in jail. Continue reading

TURKISH citizens and police have ‘surrounded’ the Incirlik air base it operates with the United States — and where a large stockpile of NATO nuclear weapons is held — ahead of a visit by a senior US official tomorrow.

Reports out of Turkey suggest all entrances to the air base have been blocked by heavy vehicles and police sent to secure its peremiter.

The unusual nigh-time move sparked rumours of a second coup attempt on Turkish social media, with concerned citizens rushing to the air base to join the blockade. Continue reading

Erdogan Unleashes Unprecedented Crackdown: Fires All University Deans; Suspends 21,000 Private School Teachers

Over the weekend, after the initial reports of the purge unleashed by Erdogan against Turkey’s public, we previewed the upcoming, far more dangerous counter-coup as follows: “it was the next step that is the critical one: the one where Erdogan – having cracked down on his immediate military and legal opponents – took his crusade against everyone else, including the press and the educational system.

But while Turkey’s press is already mostly under Erdogan’s control, it is the educational witch hunt fallout that is far more troubling, and just as expected over the past hour we have gotten a glimpse of just how extensive the Turkish’s president cleansing of secular society will be, when the state-run Anadolu news agency reported that Turkey’s ministry of education has sacked 15,200 personnel for alleged involvement with a group the government claims is responsible for Friday’s failed coup. Iran backs Turkey’s Erdogan as massive crackdown widens

A senior aide to Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that Teheran backs Turkey’s elected government and expects Ankara to do the same when it comes to Syria.

“We disagree with Turkey on some issues, like Syria. We are hopeful that the Turkish government respects the Syrian people’s opinion and votes and lets the Syrian nation choose their government,” Ali Akbar Velayati was quoted as saying by the Tasnim news agency. Continue reading

Turkey ‘shuts down Incirlik air base’ to stop US jets bombing ISIS after Erdogan blasts: ‘You’re no friend of Turkey’

A TURKISH airbase used by the USA to launch attacks on ISIS and store nukes is reportedly under lock-down in revenge for the nation harbouring last night’s “coup mastermind”.

The Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called on the US to extradite Fethullah Gulen, the man he has accused of masterminding Friday’s failed coup. Continue reading

Son of Chinese Revolutionary Tells Xi Jinping to End Communist Party’s Dictatorship

The son of a founding revolutionary of the Chinese Communist Party has penned an open letter, published in a Hong Kong newspaper, telling Chinese leader Xi Jinping to end one-Party dictatorship and transform China into a democracy.

“If you really want to eliminate corruption,” writes Luo Yu, who is now 71 and lives in the United States, “the only way is to introduce democracy in a gradual and orderly fashion.”

“China is beset by crises: a crisis in faith, morality, the environment, the economy, finance, education, medicine, and natural resources,” Luo continues. “Why? The root of all the problems is the one-Party dictatorship of the Chinese Communist Party.” Continue reading

Saudi King Salman hospitalized after erratic behavior

This likely explains the coup being attempted a couple weeks ago. As previously discussed, it will be interesting to see if the coup leaders become Iranian friendly because the Persians are somehow involved or because the Saudis, who have been tired of the U.S. for years now, seek to unite the Middle East. Worst-case ‘conspiracy’ scenario: He has been poisoned. Either way, the outcome likely won’t be good for America.

Saudi King Salman, said to suffer from dementia, was hospitalized after “he went crazy” and attempted to injure himself, sources said.

Arabic-language al-Ahd news agency reported on Oct. 8 that the 79-year-old Salman was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) section of King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh. Sources said Salman had to be restrained and placed under heavy sedation. Continue reading

Saudi princes said to call for regime change

Apparently Iran was on to something when it said the Saudi leadership wouldn’t be around in another 20 years from now. Maybe Iran knew beforehand something was going on behind the scenes. Maybe Iran penetrated the Saudi leadership circles and now have influence.

We’ll know more in the future about any possible influence as events unfold, especially if they become pro-Iran.

If Iran ever somehow took control of Saudi Arabia through influential channels, or united with them, they will have succeeded in their long-term ambitions of becoming the Middle East hegemon and new superpower on the world stage. How events have already been unfolding throughout the last decades, it seems already likely, but this would erase all doubt that Iran is the Biblically prophesied King of the South.

Senior member of Saudi royal family calls for coup to replace King Salman as the country’s leader

A Saudi prince has reportedly launched an unprecedented campaign against Saudi King Salman, calling for a coup to replace the monarch, claiming he “led the country to disaster.”

Speaking to the British daily The Guardian, the unnamed prince — one of the hundreds of grandsons of the nation’s founder, Abdulaziz Ibn Saud — said plans were being put into place to replace Salman, who succeeded King Abdullah in January. Continue reading

Varoufakis: Greek Deal Is “Coup”, Turns Greece Into “Vassal” State, And Deals “Decisive Blow” To European Project

For those curious to know what Yanis thinks about the deal, below are some “impressionistic thoughts” from the man himself. Highlights include the characterization of the Greek deal as a “decisive blow against the Euorpean project”, a “statement confirming that Greece acquiesces to becoming a vassal of the Eurogroup”, and the “culmination of a coup”.*  *  *

On the Euro Summit’s Statement on Greece: First thoughts via Yanis Varoufakis

In the next hours and days, I shall be sitting in Parliament to assess the legislation that is part of the recent Euro Summit agreement on Greece. I am also looking forward to hearing in person from my comrades, Alexis Tsipras and Euclid Tsakalotos, who have been through so much over the past few days. Till then, I shall reserve judgment regarding the legislation before us. Meanwhile, here are some first, impressionistic thoughts stirred up by the Euro Summit’s Statement. Continue reading

Vladimir Putin Ousted In Silent Coup, Reports Say, As Mystery Over Russian Strongman Continues

It’s unknown what has exactly happened since March 5, when he was last seen. It’s also unknown what tomorrow’s appearance by him might bring. If he’s to step down we might be looking at Medvedev taking charge again but in an interim capacity until elections come around. He’s a familiar face which won’t cause too much shock among the nation.

As the article states, it is plausible this has something to do with the assassination of outspoken Putin critic, Nemstov, two weeks ago. People now know who the killers are, but want the ‘contractors’ and the trail just might lead to Putin. Perhaps Putin’s already corrupt handlers in a nation ran by Soviet era KGB thugs think Putin overstepped his boundaries.

Russian strongman Vladimir Putin has been AWOL for more than a week, and reports now say that the 62-year-old president may have been deposed in a silent coup deep within the Kremlin. But Putin is scheduled to make a public appearance on Monday, so the mystery of his disappearance could be cleared up at that time — or it could grow even deeper if Putin pulls a no-show then, as he has at several announced meetings since March 5.

Stratfor: Ukraine Coup Plotted by US Over Russian Stance on Syria

The United States plotted the coup, which took place in Ukraine in February 2014, in response to Russia’s policy in Syria, said George Friedman, the founder and CEO of Stratfor, known as “Shadow CIA”.

MOSCOW, December 19 (Sputnik) — The change of power in Ukraine was initiated by the United States in response to Russia’s stance on Syria, the head of Stratfor, a geopolitical intelligence firm, said in an interview to Kommersant published Friday.

“There [Syria] Russians demonstrated to the Americans that they were capable of influencing processes in the Middle East. But the US already has a lot of problems in that region, even without Russians… The US treated it as Russia’s attempt to harm them. Event in Ukraine should be considered in this very context,” George Friedman said, as quoted by the newspaper. Continue reading

Has North Korea’s Kim Jong Un Been Toppled?

Hwang Pyong So must be feeling pretty good about himself right now. At the latest Supreme People’s Assembly meeting, he was made vice chairman of the National Defense Commission. This was after his promotion to director of the General Political Bureau of the Korean People’s Army, making him the top political officer in the military. In a country where there is supposed to be no No. 2 official, he is called the second-most powerful figure.

Now he has crossed the border into South Korea on a one-day, short-notice trip, triggering hopes of reconciliation between the arch-rival republics—and heightening speculation about the fate of Kim Jong Un, North Korea’s young supremo, who has not been seen in public since September 3.
