Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping has defended his government’s handling of its slowing economy and sought to play down differences that have strained relations with the United States, in a rare interview with a foreign news outlet.

Mr Xi provided written responses to questions submitted by The Wall Street Journal, in an interview published ahead of the Chinese leader’s official state visit to the US, which is expected to see the two countries’ divergent views on cyber security and China’s island-building in the South China Sea feature prominently.
