WARNING TO PUTIN: Poland to bolster military by 53,000 soldiers to ward off Russian threat

Poland is set to increase its military by 53,000 part-time soldiers

 

THE Polish parliament has given the go-ahead to bolster its armed forces by recruiting an extra 53,000 soldiers to ward off the possibility of a Russian attack.

The force, made up of part time soldiers, would represent a third of all the Polish military personnel.

The bill has not yet been approved by the senate but is expected to pass as the ruling right-wing government has a majority in the chamber. Continue reading

Russia deploys nuclear-capable missiles in Kaliningrad

The Soviets have made good on their threat to deploy. Since at least 2014 they have been ready to launch a rapid war from Kaliningrad.

 

Russia has deployed nuclear-capable Iskander missiles in its western-most region, Kaliningrad, which borders on Nato members Poland and Lithuania.

Poland said the development was of the “highest concern”, adding it was monitoring the situation.

Russia’s defence ministry said the new deployment was part of military exercises and had happened before. Continue reading

Spooked by Russia, Poland boosts army by 50,000 men

Poland will expand its armed forces next year to 150,000 men from the current 100,000 because of security concerns, Defence Minister Antoni Macierewicz said Friday.

He did not explicitly mention Russia’s 2014 annexation of Crimea from Ukraine or the pro-Moscow revolt in the country’s east, but those events have already spooked Warsaw into bolstering its defence capabilities. Continue reading

U.S. begins works on Poland’s Redzikowo missile defense shield

The system is designed to protect American troops and those of NATO allies from ballistic missiles. The base is due to be ready for use in 2018. The U.S. missile defense system interceptor base is part of the European Phased Adaptive Approach. Continue reading
