The U.S. is waging a massive shadow war in Africa, exclusive documents reveal

Six years ago, a deputy commanding general for U.S. Army Special Operations Command gave a conservative estimate of 116 missions being carried out at any one time by Navy SEALs, Army Green Berets, and other special operations forces across the globe.

Today, according to U.S. military documents obtained by VICE News, special operators are carrying out nearly 100 missions at any given time — in Africa alone. It’s the latest sign of the military’s quiet but ever-expanding presence on the continent, one that represents the most dramatic growth in the deployment of America’s elite troops to any region of the globe. France seizes ship with ‘hundreds of weapons’ heading for Yemen

The United States says a ship carrying hundreds of weapons, which was captured by the French Navy in the Indian Ocean, originated from Iran, and that the cargo was destined for Yemeni rebels through Somalia. The ship was seized on March 20 by a French warship patrolling the Indian Ocean as part of the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF). The CMF is a multinational naval fleet that aims to implement United Nations sanctions on Somalia. The sanctions are designed to frustrate the activities of al-Shabaab, an al-Qaeda-linked Somali militant group, and to put an end to maritime piracy in the Horn of Africa. Continue reading

Vatican Warning: Don’t Be Pontius Pilate

Don’t abrogate the responsibility to prevent radical Muslims from murdering Christians.

Western people and institutions could do more to prevent the slaughter of Christians, a Vatican cleric implied on the day after al-Shabaab’s Muslim militants besieged a university in Garissa, Kenya, and discriminately killed Christians. Continue reading

Extremists urge attacks on shopping malls in US, UK, Canada

As predicted long, long ago (see also HERE and HERE). Wherever there are women, children and elderly… They will go after schools, malls, hospitals and any other target that hits the hardest in the American mind. The sleeper cells are here and they’re waiting for the green light.

Johannesburg: A video purported to be by Somalia’s al-Qaeda-linked rebels urges Muslims to attack shopping malls in the US, Canada, Britain and other Western countries.

The masked narrator of the 76-minute video warns of more attacks in Kenya and calls on other Muslims to attack shopping malls, specifically mentioning the Mall of America in Minnesota, the West Edmonton Mall in Canada, and the Westfield Mall in Stratford, England. Continue reading

Official: U.S. airstrike in Somalia targets suspected militant leader

Events like this of late seem to occur when the national attention is elsewhere. In light of this, it shouldn’t be surprising if a nation takes advantage of the Sochi Winter Olympics as a distraction, as Putin did with his invasion of Georgia under the cover of the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

While you were distracted with the Grammys:

(CNN) — The U.S. military conducted an airstrike in southern Somalia on Sunday against a suspected militant leader, a U.S. military official told CNN.

The target was described by the official as a “senior leader” affiliated with al Qaeda and Al-Shabaab, al Qaeda’s affiliate in Somalia.

The United States has not yet been able to determine whether the target was killed, the official said. Continue reading

U.S. Repeals Propaganda Ban, Spreads Government-Made News To Americans

Even if the intent is good-willed, one shouldn’t be complacent in thinking that over time the overall message or tone of propaganda can’t be used upon citizens and against the country. Anything can be infiltrated and re-directed.

For decades, a so-called anti-propaganda law prevented the U.S. government’s mammoth broadcasting arm from delivering programming to American audiences. But on July 2, that came silently to an end with the implementation of a new reform passed in January. The result: an unleashing of thousands of hours per week of government-funded radio and TV programs for domestic U.S. consumption in a reform initially criticized as a green light for U.S. domestic propaganda efforts. So what just happened?

The restriction of these broadcasts was due to the Smith-Mundt Act, a long standing piece of legislation that has been amended numerous times over the years, perhaps most consequentially by Arkansas Senator J. William Fulbright. In the 70s, Fulbright was no friend of VOA and Radio Free Europe, and moved to restrict them from domestic distribution, saying they “should be given the opportunity to take their rightful place in the graveyard of Cold War relics.” Fulbright’s amendment to Smith-Mundt was bolstered in 1985 by Nebraska Senator Edward Zorinsky who argued that such “propaganda” should be kept out of America as to distinguish the U.S. “from the Soviet Union where domestic propaganda is a principal government activity.” Continue reading

Al Qaeda Terrorist Threat Is Growing

The threat posed by al Qaeda terrorism around the world continues to increase despite President Barack Obama’s recent claim that the central group behind the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks is on the path to defeat, according to U.S. and foreign counterterrorism officials and private experts.

While terrorist threats still exist, “the core of al Qaeda in Pakistan and Afghanistan is on the path to defeat,” the president said.

However, a U.S. counterterrorism official said the threat posed by al Qaeda is growing. “From Africa to Pakistan, it is spreading systematically,” the official said. Continue reading
