Caught On Video: Russian, NATO Jets In Near Standoff After F-16 Buzzes Defense Minister’s Airplane

A day after a Russian fighter allegedly flew within 5 feet of a US reconnaissance plane traveling over the Baltic Sea, Reuters reports that a NATO F-16 fighter jet returned the favor when it tried to improperly approach a plane carrying the Russian defense minister. The plane was traveling to the city of Kaliningrad, a Russian enclave along the Baltic coast, where Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu was scheduled to discuss security issues with defense officials on Wednesday. The NATO aircraft was warded off by a Russian Su-27 jet, according to RT.

In an accounting of the incident, Reuters notes that one of the Russian fighter jets escorting Shoigu’s plane had inserted itself between the defense minister’s plane and the NATO fighter and “tilted its wings from side to side to show the weapons it was carrying, Russian agencies said.” After that the F-16 promptly left the area. Putin Warns America “Has A False Sense That It Can Do Anything Without Consequences”

In the first episode of Stone’s hugely anticipated Showtime series, which aired Monday night, Russian President Vladimir Putin pulled no punches claiming US is to blame for the rise of Al-Qaeda and its late mastermind Osama bin Laden, which it empowered to fight Soviet troops in Afghanistan, adding that there is proof the CIA supported terrorists in Russia’s Chechnya.

Al-Qaeda is not the result of our activities. This is the result of activities of our US friends. This all started in the times of the Soviet war in Afghanistan, when the US security services supported different movements of Islamic fundamentalism in their struggle against the Soviet troops in Afghanistan,” Putin told Stone, adding that the “US side has nurtured both Al-Qaeda and [Osama] bin Laden.”

“It always happens like this. Our US partners should have been aware of it. It is their fault,” Putin said. Continue reading

Russian TV Host: It is our Sacred National Duty to be an Empire

Please see the source for the video.

Russian TV host Mikhail Smolin recently outlined his manifesto, claiming that Russia had to return to its “sacred” historical role as a Christian Empire. He was speaking on his regular show titled “White Word” on the Tsargrad Christian Orthodox TV channel on May 12.

Mikhail Smolin: Empire is the highest form of statehood. It is born of the hierarchy of human alliances – family, clan, and class – and it extends beyond the state’s national borders, serving as a focal point of political and cultural unification for non-nationals. The Empire consists of peoples and territories that have either been conquered – in order to gain natural geopolitical borders or to tame “restless” neighbors – or have voluntarily joined the ideal of human society that guides the Empire. The concept of Empire as statehood runs through the entire Russian civilization. When the state becomes an empire, it reaches the civilizational threshold, creating a totally self-sufficient state and cultural world of its own. Empire becomes the universal state. Its universality is manifest in the joint worldview dictated by religion, rather than by secular political and economic ideology. Continue reading
