The European Union’s foreign policy chief warned businesses on the continent that they risk sanctions from the confederation if they dare break and abide by new U.S. sanctions against Iran, all but confirming what President Donald Trump said about the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action nuclear deal.
In an interview with BBC Radio 4, an aide to Federica Mogherini warned the EU was taking measures to “protect European companies” that were necessary to send a diplomatic signal to Iran that “Europeans are serious” about keeping the JCPOA:
“If EU companies abide by U.S. secondary sanctions, they will, in turn, be sanctioned by the EU.”
