Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has vowed to ‘shred’ the 2015 JCPOA nuclear deal if the U.S. walks away.

The Iranian government has urged Europe to “encourage” President Donald Trump to recertify the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, saying there is no “Plan B” should the nuclear agreement be terminated.

This morning, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who masterminded the 2015 nuclear deal, tweeted:

“It is either all or nothing. European leaders should encourage Trump not just to stay in the nuclear deal, but more important to begin implementing his part of the bargain in good faith. President Macron is correct in saying there is no ‘Plan B’ on JCPOA.”

Zarif’s comments about French President Emmanuel Macron were regarding his appearance on “FOX News Sunday” over the weekend in which he recommended preserving the JCPOA framework because it is “better than a sort of North Korea-type situation.” He said he doesn’t have any “Plan B” for nuclear protections against Iran.

The Iranian foreign minister also made the rounds on the Sunday talk shows, telling CBS’s “Face the Nation” that if the president ends the JCPOA, his country will relaunch its nuclear weapons campaign “at a much greater speed” than before the deal was hammered out. Although his country’s compliance with its obligations is in question, he threatened to “shred” the deal if Washington pulls out of it.

The European signatories to the JCPOA have benefited from the lifting of sanctions and improved trade with Iran since the deal was enacted.
