The Commandant of the Marine Corps, during a stop to visit a 300-member detachment of the 2nd Battalion 2nd Marines stationed in Norway, told the men under his charge that a “big-[expletive] fight” is coming and they need to be prepared.
Miliary.com reports Gen. Robert Neller, on the first stop on his annual Christmas tour to visit deployed Marines, said:
“I hope I’m wrong, but there’s a war coming … You’re in a fight here, an informational fight, a political fight, by your presence.“
The unit based near Trondheim is officially in Norway to “enhance partnerships with European allies and improve the Marine Corps’ ability to fight in cold weather.” But Neller told the Marines he expects the Pacific and Russia to be “operational points of focus”—a position reinforced by President Donald Trump’s National Security Strategy this week.
