Palestinians gain membership of Interpol

A general assembly of the international police organization (Interpol) meeting in Beijing Wednesday voted to accept as a member the “State of Palestine” – against Israeli opposition. The Palestine Liberation Organization said on Twitter that more than 75 percent of Interpol members voted to approve its membership. US and Israel efforts to prevent this failed.

DEBKAfile: The Palestinians, though a non-state, will have the right henceforth to apply to Interpol for detention warrants against Israeli citizens, including its security and military officers. Not all applications are automatically approved, but long-drawn judicial battles may ensue.

It is especially ironic that one day after the Palestinian Authority lauded a terrorist who murdered three Israelis as “a heroic martyr,” its “foreign minister” Riyad al-Malki, stated: “The State of Palestine (sic) reiterates its commitment to upholding its obligations and contribute to fighting crime and furthering the rule of law.”
