The sheer number of serious national security leaks in the Trump White House thus far is a shocking “seven times” the average number of leaks in previous administration, said Sebastian Gorka, former deputy assistant to President Donald Trump.
In a Sept. 15 Judicial Watch panel discussion, “Exposing the Deep State,” Gorka said he preferred the term “Permanent State” and said it was not “a function of something that was hidden or deep, it was right there on the surface of our policy discussions at the White House. It was in our faces. It was arrogant . . . overt.”
“This is not just a reaction to a New York mogul who became president. This has been brewing for decades, truly decades,” Gorka said.
The former national security professor said that he enjoyed “conspiracy theories” but emphasized that they were theories, not fact. Since leaving the White House “three weeks ago”, he has however spoken out on what he experienced with agencies in the “Permanent State”.
While not referring to the agency by name, Gorka testified to the power wielded by unnamed individuals at a “sister agency.”
“The seventh floor of that agency, to quote a senior individual, ‘looks at the White House as the enemy,’ ” Gorka said.
It is important to stop and let that sink in, he said. These are officials whose job is to carry out the policies of the duly elected president of the United States. And yet, said Gorka, many of them think they “know better” having been on the job before the new president entered the White House and after he is gone.
“I’ve seen the worst of the worst, the first seven months, of how the bureaucracy responded to the administration of Donald J. Trump,” he said.
Among the Deep State’s responses to Trump were a number of selective leaks to the media. Gorka identified 125 national security leaks in the first 126 days of the Trump administration, at least 60 of which were of “serious national security matters.”
Gorka has trained many young men and women in the national security field at the National Defense University and the Institute of World Politics and wanted to bring to the White House some of his best students who were now members of the intelligence community.
“I identified the three best individuals, and requested – as a deputy assistant to the president – that these people be detailed over to me at the White House to work on key projects of importance to Steve [Bannon] and the president,” he said.
“In the six months I was in office, not one of those people was detailed over to me from an unnamed sister agency.”
Gorka said he later discovered, “not only did the sister agency stop their detailing, every single individual was taken off their current duty roster and punished, and put into menial tasks.”
The FBI, in a 2016 dump of document on the Hillary Clinton investigation, included interview notes that described “a powerful group of very high-ranking State officials that some referred to as ‘The 7th Floor Group’ or ‘The Shadow Government.’ ”
The FBI said the group met every Wednesday afternoon to discuss public information requests and “everything Clinton-related to FOIA/Congressional inquiries.”
