Gibraltar’s Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo, has called for Gibraltar’s ties to Britain to be “cemented” after we leave the EU in March 2019.
Speaking to the Associated Press, Picardo said he wants to “establish that bilateral relationship of trade to continue the morning after Brexit as if the single market between Gibraltar and the UK seamlessly moved from one moment to the next”.
Picardo was dismissive of the idea of Spain using Brexit to try and force a fresh claim for the territory, which overwhelmingly voted to remain British in the late 60’s, saying: “I think we have seen since the change…a new realism emerge into the importance of Brexit for the whole European Union and for this region around Gibraltar of Spain in particular.
