DONALD Trump has promised to work quickly with Britain to secure a “quick and proper” trade deal after Brexit, which he predicted would be “great” for the country.
The president-elect said: “Brexit is going to end up being a great thing.
“We’re gonna work very hard to get it done quickly and done properly. Good for both sides.”
He added he would invite Prime Minister Theresa May to meet him “right after” he enters the White House next week.
Speaking to former justice secretary Michael Gove for an interview with The Times, he said: “Countries want their own identity and the UK wanted its own identity.
“I do think if they hadn’t been forced to take in all of the refugees than you wouldn’t have a Brexit.”
The business mogul predicted other EU states would follow suit and quit the bloc.
President Barack Obama had previously warned the UK would be at the “back of the queue” if they voted to leave the European Union.
