The US Navy (USN) is exploring all options for bolstering defences against growing missile threats in the Pacific, including the potential for using an Aegis Ashore site in Hawaii.
“The weapons are becoming very energetic these days, so really the idea of doing everything we can to bring technology and [concepts of operations] to bear to prevent being hit by one of these weapons is a big part of our portfolio going forward,” Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Admiral John Richardson said during 12 September remarks at the Center for American Progress in Washington, DC.
