Concerned immigration officials are flagging up the “suspicious individuals” to counter-terrorism officers following routine questioning at passport control, according to the head of the Border Force.
They are picked out during routine questioning at immigration desks or if they have travelled into the country through high risk routes, Sir Charles Montgomery said.
Speaking on Tuesday the Border Force’s director general said: “On the inbound journey my officers do a fair amount of their own questioning and profiling.
“On a weekly basis we are averaging referrals of over 100 people from the process of questioning on the desk.
“The vast majority of those are not of interest but a percentage get taken forward.”
