AFRICOM chief: ISIL threat ‘has expanded across all of North Africa’

At a June 12 press conference at AFRICOM’s base in Stuttgart, Germany with reporters from Tunisia and Morocco, Gen. David Rodriguez said “unfortunately, that (Islamic State) has expanded across northern Africa, coming out of mainly Libya, but also across all of north Africa.”

“That threat continues to grow,” Rodriguez said. “We’re working with all our partners to help minimize the negative effect on the security of host nations.”

Rodriguez said AFRICOM had plans to build up Libya’s military, but that won’t happen until the country forges a unity government. Currently, there are two competing governments and several militia groups battling for power in Libya.

  1. Which is precisely what Gaddafi said was going to happen. This was all planned long in advance. The US, UK, France and NATO all knew this: they’d been told by Gaddafi and other Libyan officials that Al-Qaeda and other Islamist groups were behind all the attacks, and they went ahead and destroyed Libya anyway, turning into a terrorist training area and a hub for the flow of weapons to various terrorist and militant groups in Africa and the Middle East. Gadaffi’s murder and the collapse of Libya was all planned in order to facillitate this spread of terrorism and armed extremism.
