Russia upgrades its strategic missile forces

Construction of the seventh and eighth Project 955/955A Borei-class nuclear powered ballistic missile submarine is expected to begin before the end of 2015 to meet the current programme of completing eight boats for the Russian Navy by the end of 2020.

Alexander Nevsky , the second boat of the class, has completed all its tests and a formal announcement of its combat-ready status is expected in the near future. Due to be transferred to the Russian Navy’s Pacific Fleet within the next few months, Alexander Nevsky is expected to conduct a missile launch in late September. The 3M30 Bulava (SS-N-32) missile will be launched from the Sea of Okhotsk to a target on the Chizha range in Arkhangelsk Oblast.
