In a clear stab at the NATO and EU, the Socialist government in Athens is actively negotiating with Russia to purchase Moscow’s S-300 anti-missile system and its service package.
Greek Defense Minister Panos Kammenos confirmed the news on April 15 in the wake of a visit to Moscow by Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.
The trip was an apparent effort to beg the Russians, who are equally low on cash, for some financial assistance to avoid a default on mounting debts.
Greece is a NATO member state yet it has been unable to acquire and maintain Russia’s S-300 missile defense system since the 1990s.
