IN recent years China has embarked on an astonishing rail construction spree.

Now it wants to build a massive 13,000 kilometre high-speed underwater train line to connect to Beijing to the US, the Beijing Times reports.

The route would begin in the country’s northeast and extend through Siberia and across the Bering Straight into Alaska, according to an expert at the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Wang Mengshu.

It would be almost 3000km longer than the epic Trans-Siberian railroad.
